Empowering Black Youth through Entrepreneurship

The Black Youth program addresses this inequity by offering new tools to break through the barriers. Through a blend of end-to-end entrepreneurship training, business networking, mentorship, accredited partnerships and more, the Black Youth Program gives aspiring youth the tools they need to accelerate their growth and thrive in business.

What is the Black Youth Program?

The Afro-Canadian Entrepreneurs Association (ACANEA), in cooperation with the Black Francophone community and french school offers various entrepreneurial programs for Black young Francophones. Whether it is to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs , raise awareness of business creation, facilitate the transition between school and work, or ensure the retention of Black young people in the regions, ACANEA’s youth initiatives focus in particular on the value of bilingualism, technology and the creation of structuring projects.

This program also is designed to provide youth and young Entrepreneurs access to the entire suite of Empowering Black young people lab training, along with exclusive content, workshops, business coaching, and a curated stream of resources and tools built specifically of Black youth in Alberta and across Canada.

We Train.

Training Black youth in entrepreneurship requires a comprehensive  approach that combines practical knowledge, skill-building, mentorship, and access to resources.

We Educate.

To effectively educate Black Youth, we address their specific needs and challenges while providing them the knowledge and skills necessary for successs.

We Provide.

We provide resources and support: offer resources such as entrepreneurship guides, skill development materials to both mentors and mentees.

We ensure a favorable environment to allow an optimal transition from idea stage to the realization of those ideas and beyond:

These programs aim to foster the growth, success, and empowerment of Black Youth entrepreneurs by providing them with valuable opportunities, resources, mentorship. and networking platforms: Here some key component of high programs for Black Youth:

Banda Program

Banda is a lingala word  (one of Congolese languages) expression for a fresh start- is a Black entrepreneur Ecosystem program designed to help  Black youth people (15-30 years old) to turn their business ideas into reality.

Business Development

Black Youth are connected with Mentors and coaching. They also receive training on key interview skills, job hunting, how to continue learning and skill development.

Financial Literacy

Black Youth between the ages of 12 and 39 years-old learn an increasingly complex set of skills form money management and incorporate financial literacy training into entrepreneurship education, we teach Black Youth about personal finance, budgeting, understanding financial statement, and accessing funding options.

Employment Support

By providing employability during summer and life skills training as well as quality employment opportunities, we are equipping our youth with tools to eliminate barriers that prevent them from succeeding .

Business Networking

We organize networking events or workshops specifically tailored for Black youth Entrepreneurs. These events can bring together young Entrepreneurs, industry experts, mentors, and investors, providing a platform for networking, and collaboration.

Newcomer Program

We create programs that provide access to small grants or loans specifically for Black youth newcomers who want to start their own businesses. We partner with financial institutions (TD Bank, BDC, and RBC), government agencies and community foundations to secure funding for these initiative.

Upcoming Events

The programs are intended to help Black youth and  entrepreneurs overcome systemic barriers and challenges to business success. In addition to empower Black Youth people to be their own bosses in life and career, supporting their growth as entrepreneurial, innovators, and changemakers.

  • Startup Resources: Participant in the program receive support to landing pages and pitch practice. We offer educational programs an training workshops to equip Black youth with essential business skills.

  • Networking: Meet and network with Black Founders who are building impactful businesses. We create networking platforms and opportunities for Black youth entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate, and form partnerships.
  • Accessing to Funding: We assist Black Youth in accessing funding opportunities and resources  to support their businesses. We provide information on grants, loans and connect with our partners (BDC, RBC banks). 
  • Mentorship and Coaching: ACANEA facilitates mentorship and coaching programs where experienced entrepreneurs and professionals provide guidance and support to Black youth.
